Avoid Scams

The same is true for any marketplace – fraudulent people will try to use many strategies to swindle legitimate buyers. In an effort to protect each of our hair buyers and sellers, we have included this page to update you on some of the latest scams:

Some of the most common scams:

  • Buyer agrees to send a ‘certified check’ to the seller which later turns out to be fake.
  • Buyer claims he or she will send you an amount of money over the selling price and then asks you to send them the excess funds through a wire to cover the ‘shipping costs’. When all is said and done, the buyer will not send the money through.
  • You are asked to take the buyer’s good faith that they have pending funds in PayPal. The buyer also informs you that the funds will only clear after you post the item and insert a tracking ID into PayPal. However, the payments would have been completed using a stolen credit card which will bounce. Beware as PayPal does not require any type of tracking ID for funds to clear.
  • Buyer sends the seller a phony payment notification from PayPal to his email account.
  • Buyer sends a counterfeit money order.

Other Activity Viewed as Suspicious:

  • Buyers attempt to build trust by talking about personal experiences or other topics that are not relevant to the sale.
  • Strange or poor grammar and syntax.
  • Any buyer who is willing to pay over the requested or listed price.
  • Any request for personal information that is unnecessary.
  • A request via Skype for you to snip off a piece of your hair.

When registering on the site, it is in your best interest to do so using an email address that is temporary as buyers can see your email address when you respond to messages received via the site. If you did reply to a scam responder and they already have your email address, it is suggested that you go ahead and add their email address to your blocked or spamlist to prevent any further contact with the person.

To help you remain safe and secure, it is suggested that all sellers and buyers handle payments directly through PayPal and do not take any further action until payment has completely cleared. You can check the payment status by logging into your actual PayPal account.

However, if you do receive massages that are scams, immediately forward the message to us.

You will find the user’s email and IP address located in the footer of the initial message you received from the sender through the website.

Please remain aware that scammers are always present in the most popular marketplaces, especially sites for classified ads where registration is free and it is simple to message sellers.

The good thing is that the majority of sellers on the site are aware of common scams. In addition, we do everything we can to keep our users informed on what to watch out for. In fact, we constantly remind sellers of online safety etiquettes in our selling hair guide, during the listing process for the ad. When we receive reports of scammers, we immediately turn the information over to scammer databases. Additionally, we cross-check all registrants with the scammer database list. However, sellhairstore.com is a hair classified ad site and does not maintain responsibility for any transactions conducted with third parties.

Never send any additional pictures or VIDEOS to a specific email:
